A faster more efficient nebulizer?

I am SO glad you asked this question because something is definitely wrong! Our compressor is neither Pari nor Devilbiss; some generic kind that our speciality CF pharmacy here in Oklahoma got for us. We DO use only Pari LC Plus nebulizers. For us, Albuterol takes maybe 8 minutes; Pulmozyme takes about 6 minutes; TOBI takes 22 minutes. Definitely look into a different compressor.

As far as the e-flow, we have looked into it. I can see definite possibilities, but our daughter is 4 1/2 years old. From what I can gather the time spent cleaning, even possibly in between treatments, is not for us at this time. I think you would be swapping one time issue for another. Can you imagine telling your daughter to sit right there and wait patiently while you rinse/sterlize to load the next med? The way we do it now, we have 7 nebulizers that we sterlize every night so we have a full days supply ready; we are able to load all three or four nebs just prior to the breathing treatment session.

Also, as a prior poster mentioned the eflow and its parts are extremely expensive. I've heard so many bad things about the Pari compressors (even though that is what our doc prescribes) that I am staying away from them. I've been looking at ammericanallergysupply.com and the Devilbiss Pulmo-Aide is available for about $90. Yikes sorry this post is so long!

The Eflow is the best!!! It cuts all the nebs in half. Most insurances will pay for it since you only need 1/2 of the amount of meds to use in it so it saves money in the long run.

cleaning it is a piece of cake. You only need to do a quick rinse between the different meds and can store one of the parts in alcohol between uses. Cleaning is no harder than with the pari and other nebs.

If insurance denies it the first time, appeal it and point out the money they will save with the meds. I also believe that the eflow has a program that covers it if you buy your tobi and pulmozyme through IV solutions. IV Solutions are pros at getting it all approved and service the unit for you. The Phone # I have is 800-658-6046.

It is so worth it!! I don't have to fight with Nathan to do his nebs anymore because they literaly take just a few minutes, can be done in the car, and on vacation easily. He even takes it to the hospital when he does a tune-up so he can use it there because of the time saved.

Patty! (hijacking this thread for a minute)

Sounds like you could give me some pratical advice on using the eflow with kids. As I mentioned above, last time I looked at the Eflow I got dejected about the "pickiness" of it.

In between meds, what part(s) do you rinse and what do you rinse with? We do Albuterol, HS, Pulmo and TOBI in one sitting. Would I use the Eflow with all of these (I suspect not; however even just nebbing TOBI and Pulmo with it might be worth the time savings). Would I just rinse in between each one? Does IV Solutions reformulate the meds for you? How long have you used it and do you have to replace the filter every six months? Thanks for any input!!

For others - if I have the link right, this is to Sakasuka's blog with pictures of the Eflow. Hmmmm, I'm getting excited about the prospect again......

Hi Dana,
Yes, you can use all those meds in the eflow, the only one I am not certain of is the albuterol as we use the puffer instead of the neb, but the rest yes. Yes, IV Solutions does all the work of fixing all the dosages, with the exception of the Pulmo which remains the same. I just rinse the whole plastic part where the med goes with water between each med, store the one metal part in alchohol between uses during the day, and wash it all throughly and dry it throughly at night. When rinsing between meds, I just do a quick rinse to make sure the previous med isn't left behind to mix with the new one. The time saved using this device most certainly makes it worth it to us.

The most important things to remember about the eflow is to be sure and store the metal piece (which you will understand when/if you get one) in alchol between uses and to make sure everything is dry before shutting all the pieces up. I had to have surgery this summer and my husband and son where taking care of the eflow but they weren't drying before putting it all back together to store between uses, and it grew mold on the lid. It was no big deal because IV Solutions just replaced the parts for us with no problem.

IV Solutions sends you a new "head", the metal part, every 3 months and then other parts if you need them. There are no filters. They also replace the entire unit every 1 to 1 1/2. I personally think that IV Solutions is the way to go because they take care of everything for us and I never see a bill for anything. Plus if you use TOBI and or Colistin, you can get free vitamins from ABDEK through IV Solutions. IV Solutions keeps track of everything for you and sends you what you need when you need it and/or its time.

We have used the eflow for just about a year now.
