It's been about a year now since my first post, and it's been an interesting year for me. I'm w/o CF, but I've been taking my time in just really trying to figure out a way that I can really interact personally with those who are CF.

I thought at first I'd sell Teddy Bears or Breath wristbands. Then I thought I'd visit the kids in the hospital. But none of that happened.

See, I was scared of visiting the hospital in case I got shooed out because I didn't meet the clean test. It was like watching a roller coaster and being thrilled to see it zoom and loop. Getting on that ride..well that's a different matter.

As for the commercial selling aspect, although the means to the end is quite justified, it wasn't personal enough for me. Sitting outside a grocery store on the weekends or going from one business to another door to door to raise funds for the cause didn't get me close enough to the action. Besides, I've been told I'm a bad salesman anyway.

It's taken me a year to discover how I want to help based on my life experience in how I have given in the past with my time, talent and skills. I grew up in Scouting and climbed all the way to Eagle. It was odd that when recently searching on the internet for something called a sunshine basket (It's a floral bouqet), I came across Camp Sunshine. Suddenly it dawned on me how I wanted to get in. How I could help, how I could get involved as deep as my heart aches and make it just as personable to jump into action. I want to be a volunteer at camp.

No....

I am going to be a volunteer at camp.

It was a Herman Melville poem that comes to mind to finish with. I only recall the end part where he wrote "...and our actions go as causes, and come back as effects."

Hi Jim! You sound like a wonderful and caring young man. Any camp would be fortunate to have you with them.

We are also in Scouting. My son Josh is a Life Scout and Jesse (who just crossed-over) is going for his board of review for Tenderfoot next week. Josh is looking for an Eagle project right now.

Thank you for all of your efforts on behalf of CFers.

Hi Jane!

Glad to hear the boys are involved and active! Josh will will discover and learn some management skills with his Eagle project. I remember mine, and I remember I didn't like supervising or delagating all that much. But it is a noteworthy experience as the final echelon of making it to the top rank of Eagle. My best wishes on his project!

I looked at the Camp Sunshine website and from what I saw they so not have any cystic fibrosis programs, they are specifically for cancer, and some ot specific conditions.
