Lamp,
Since we thought we couldn't afford a baby, we were actually doing the searching for an older child that was already in foster care and whose parents really didn't have a say where the child went.
As far as the pregnancy went, we tried for 10 years to get pregnant on our own and then went to a fertility doctor. I had not done the research on CF fertility issues or we may have known what to try right away. Instead we did testing and stuff, trying to figure out what was wrong. We were going to do IVF but with only a 25% chance of conceiving, the cost seemed too high for the odds. So, we decided to pursue adoption.
About a year ago, three years after adopting Chris, we decided we wanted to try IVF, despite the cost. I went to my first appointment and the doc gave me a prescrip for birth control and told me to start them the first day of my period (to regulate it). Seventeen days later, I still hadn't started. I had already been pregnant at my first fertility visit. It took me two pregnancy tests and an ultrasound to really believe I was pregnant after 13 years of trying. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
