Allergies?

Hi Tonya!

I agree with everyone else here. Before Marissa was treated for allergies (which I also was told was CF and not allergies) she was on antibiotics more than she was off. Literally she would have sinus and ear infections back to back. It would take 2-3 courses to get rid of an infection, and then before 2 weeks were up she would be sick again. (The poor child gets terrible yeast infections within 2-3 days of being on an antibiotic). She coughed a lot, wheezed a lot, her peak flows were a lot lower, and she was just sick in general. BUT, I have allergies, and I know when I am sick and when I am suffering from my allergies. She would get "sick" everytime I would have problems with my allergies.

The last straw was Marissa got another ear infection in August of 2006. We switched antibiotics 3 times in two weeks, but she wouldn't get better. It would seem for a couple of days that the antibiotic was working and then her fever would shoot and she would be in pain. Finally she had to be rushed to Johns Hopkins because her fever wouldn't break and she had a red swollen area behind her ear. The infection had went to her mastoid bone and she had to go on IV antibiotics. I insisted she needed to be treated for allergies, they put her on Singulair, and she has only had 2 sinus/ear infections since that, and they went away with 1 dose of antibiotics, and she has never blown as high as she does now.

Check it out.

I will keep Andrew in my prayers.
Good Luck!
