allergy/mattress type question...

I have an allergen/dust mite mattress cover, its a very good one. What I need to know is when putting it on the mattress do I put the thick mattress pad (that stretches over the mattress for stain type purposes) over the allergen cover, or under it? And then I put my regular cotton sheets over that?
Thanks.

ps-FYI anyone who wants to know, I recently learned that you can put your sheets, matress pads, blankets and pillows in your freezer overnight and that will kill all the dust mites that live in them. Of course you'd have to have an empty freezer or a spare garage one but many do.

I ended up just taking my mattress pad off. I would have put it on top I guess, but my allergist said that I had to wash everything that was outside of the allergen cover once a week in hot water. I do enough laundry as it is

We just got a new allergen cover because the other one ripped...I hate it though because it makes a "sound" when you move...hope I get used to it or we just wasted some $$

Are these those plastic mattress protector things like what I used for Jazmine's bed before she was potty trained?

yes Melissa- I think thats the same thing we're talking about.

I dont mind having to wash once a week-I kinda have to that with my sheets now as it is or they start to irritate me. The thing is I'd like the mattress pad to be above the allergen cover bc the allergen cover makes that annoying sound when you move, and the mattress pad would get rid of that. But I just want to make sure that thats ok.

I think that it sound be fine as long as your wash it weekly...but then again, I am not an allergist

I may try a mattress cover to reduce that noise! My prior one didn't make that noise, but this new one does.

As for whether this is the same as the 'potty training' kind, I think that mine is specifically for allergens, but is also water-resistant, so it may be the same thing

There are difference "grades" of mattress covers, just as there are for pillow cases. The inexpensive ones are the noisiest, and the pricier ones have a softer feel to them.

The mattress pad goes over allergy cover, then the sheets on top of that. If the cover doesn't fit well and slides around a lot, it can be quite noisy. Getting a good fit can be difficult.

Good luck.

That must be the issue, I bought the first one (that wasn't noisy) and my (cheap) husband bought the new noisy one hehe
