I have has my port for over 5 years and I love it, but when my Dr.'s asked me to get it I didn't want to, but I really didn't have any other options left. Picc's didn't work for me at all and all my veins were shoot. There are creams you can get to numb the area of your port site so you don't feel the needle going in.
Oh and by the way I did get diabetes after my transplant for a short little while, and had to give my self insolin shoot from the pen. The insolin shots were less pain full because the needle was so small, but you get use to your port needle and it dosen't really hurt at all its like a pinch. After that while its in there you don't feel any pain from it what so ever. If you go to my blog page I have pictures of my port so you can see how far it might stand out. Just go to My Port Pictures if you want to see it! I was really thin in these pic. like 90 lb so it sticks out much further then it does now. I can't even see my port at all, I have boobs now. I have gained weight sins the Tx. I have also been told that they may have put a childs port in me because the port is so small. Maybe because I am small!
