Hi,

I was on the high-dose ibuprofen for 13 years, just stopped it about a year ago. Now I'm taking MWF Zithro for inflammation. I think it works well.

Jaime-whey did you stop the ibuprofen?

well when i switched over to the adult clinic my new dr. wasn't convinced it was doing anything for my anymore but he let me stay on it at my request. eventually i kept getting exacerbations over and over every few months and he thought that the ibuprofen might be contributing to that? i'm not really sure how it was but i stopped taking it and havn't had an exacerbation in nearly a year (although i'm about to need IVs again here really soon). Now, i'm really not sure at all how the ibuprofen was contributing to the exacerbations, or even if it was at all, but its anti-inflamatory benefits seemed to have stopped working for me. But not to scare you parents out there--when i started the therapy at 6 or so it DEFINITELY helped me then....there is just no study evidence showing that it helps in adults....so now i'm off it.

now i take zithromax m/w/f like you and think its working well!

hope that all made sense....

I have been on 800mg/day for the last 8yrs along with the zithromax(although I was not very compliant on this as I didn't want to build up a resistance). I do know that I definitely need the ibuprofen. I have costochondritis(sp?)and if I don't take the ibuprofen I definitely can tell. It also helps get rid of my sinus pain/pressure which I have pretty much everyday(even after surgery!!).
