Any marathoners with cf here?

Just wondering if any of the cfers here have run a marathon. It's an idea that's been growing in the back of my mind, so I'm looking for some guidance. As of today, I'm not a runner. Used to be. Kind of.

I'm not a runner (yet) but my co-worker is determined he can make me one <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> He says to start slow, run 60 seconds, walk 60 seconds and slowly build up. I haven't tried yet...but I am cycling so that's a start. I'm curious if there's anyone out there running, too. Also...do our muscles have different oxygen requirements? I've always had issues with very tight and overdeveloped calves that tire easily. Maybe has nothing to do with cf, just curious.

I'm starting with the running/walking thing, too. I've been walking 3+ miles at a time on a regular basis for months, now, and I think I'm ready to start running again. I've also dropped from 210 lbs back down to 180, so I think my knees can take it now.

I bought a new pair of running shoes yesterday, so there's no backing out now. I don't know about the marathon thing, but I'd like to get to the point where I can run 3 miles 3 times a week, then see if I feel like going for more.

I ran my first marathon a few months ago. You should not even start to train for a marathon until you've been running regularly for more than a year (I think about 25 + miles a week.) The training is long and a HUGE committment. I was kinda dumb b/c I should've gone for something smaller like maybe a 5 K or half-marathon to Start with, but I am an extremest (sp?), but I did it!!! Anyway, if you're still thinking about doing this I'd love to chat! I (obviously) love to run - it is my passion!

I will tell you one thing - THERE IS NOTHING LIKE CROSSING THAT FINISH LINE!!! I cannot wait to do another one - my goal now is to qualify for Boston!
