I don't have CF but underwent three rounds of IVF with PGD to try to ensure a baby free of CF. We have a two year old with CF. We used RMA in NJ.

Hi Nicole,

Great to know I'm not the only one and that you were successful - was starting to feel a bit more like a pioneer than I wanted... Will have a good read of your blog tonight and then will probably start boring you with questions if that's ok.
Lillian looks gorgeous - congrats!

Thanks also to other IVFers who posted - all the advice much appreciated,

Elizab

PS Got my dates today - am starting down-regulation in 2 weeks time....

Just make sure you are super healthy and I woud highly encourage you to keep a journal or some log like I did. I felt like I must be 1st too but found out that I am the 6th pregnancy at my CF clinic and 3rd IVF'er as well

Whatever you do make sure they dont hyperstim you! Conservative is the key, they really tried to prevent this with me but you will see I got a touch of it which was not fun but didnt affect my lungs.

Also, it is not in my blog but I believe perhaps the reason I bled during my cycle was due to the high hormone levels, Iknow I was 100% not sick, even doc agreed tthat time and more I read more I think bleeding may be due to hormones.

Take care!

Hi Nicole,

Glad to hear that you know of other IVF successes at your clinic - none at mine!
Will keep an eye on the over-stim issue - aware of it cos a previous IUI cycle had to be cancelled cos I was overstimulated - but the bar is much higher for IVF cos of the number of eggs they need so am hoping it'll be ok.
On the super-healthy front - I am healthy but my FEV1 is nowhere near yours - I average about 60%. I work full-time and have a good social life so I guess I consider myself healthy. I do IVs about 3 times a year - but have never been seriously ill.
How much energy did you conserve when you were doing IVF? There are a couple of different potentially busy and stressful things at work which could coincide with some of my treatment and two-week wait which I'm considering not getting involved with (where I generally would!) to try and give myself the best chance.
At the same time I feel pretty conflicted because I'm worried that if this cycle doesn't work out and I've missed out on a couple of opportunities I'll be doubly gutted.

I'd be interested in any opinions on this.

Thanks v much for the advice,

Elizab

I hope you didnt think I was trying to say you had to be super healthy like great FEV or anything that is all up to the individual I just meant super healthy for you-like an at your best statement. I hope my comment wasnt taken wrong.

I woudl DEFINATELY opt out of the things at work. If you are anythign like me your mind will be all over the place and you will not be at your best. Plus you have to miss work alot for appointments for ultrasounds and such during process and then Idont know about your docs but I took off the day of ER, day after ER (optional but highly recommended), then next day was transfer so took off ET did strict bedrest the day of ET and lied low on modified bedrest the next two days. ONce my beddrest was done I started working on great strides walk alot since I needed something to occupy my mind but knew I woudlnt be at my best so maybe week after is a good time to pick some stuff up?

I would highly recommend the boards http://www.ivfconnections.net/.../forumdisplay.php?f=3
you can go there and under the IVF section there is by topic, should you have specific questions and cycle buddies if you click on that link you will see MarApr and alot threads under it of women going through at same time as you it was priceless for me as any quesitons I had other women were doing at same time or just ahead of me and had answers to. It is very helpful and I stayed with these same women during our pregnancies since we were all due in dec and am now on a parenting thread with them. SOme of us have met talked on phone etc and it is great IMO.

Cant wait to see how you are liking-disliking lupron. It was horird for me and gave me headaches and hot flashes

Hi Elizab,

I'm the mom to twins Julie was talking about. I know what you mean about feeling like a pioneer going through IVF and having CF. Imagine my surprise when we found out it was twins! I have since found other CFers out there that have given birth to twins, so I know I'm not alone. I'd be happy to answer any of your questions. I'm an open book. I think our age and FEV1 (pre-pregnancy) are very similar.
