Anyone switch clinics before?

We switched clinics about a year ago and it was the best thing we ever did. At the new clinic they work very hard to make sure no one has to sit around forever. But I guess I am willing to put up with some waiting since my daughter's PFTs improved so dramatically after the switch. We just bring some activities and the expectation that we will be there for a couple of hours so we can see the usual crew - pulmonologist, pulmonology fellow, GI doc, dietician, social worker, respiratory therapist and, annually, the physical therapist.

I agree with marisalynn - you have to be your own (or your childrens) advocate. You know what is best for your children. You have to go get it for them.

One suggestion - I have heard that some clinics will do a one time consultation. You check out the other clinic that way. You'll find out if you like it better and if they would be treating your children any differently. Then you can make an informed decision about where to go on a regular basis.

I don't know where I heard about these consultations, but they seem to make sense. Does anyone know if I dreamt this up or can it be done?

Hi Christy,
I know what it's like to wait,,and wait,,and wait. You are right. It's extremely frustrating. But, I also try to see things from the clinics perspective. They have doctors, nurses, RTs, etc. who bop between clinic and admitted patients all day long. Sometimes when we are admitted I see part of our team at 6 or 7 o'clock at night, knowing they have been in the hospital all day. Having to prioritize who gets seen first cannot be an easy task. I would definitely make my decision based on the quality of care are are recieving, not on the wait. I would wait all day long to see our doctor. She is that worth it.

hi, i switched clinics in may.....its pretty much the same routine in each clinic. my reason for switching was a staffing change and i wasnt pleased with the new doctors decisions (or lack there of). so, i went for a second opinion and decided that is where i wanted to take my daughter. we drive an extra 2 hours, and it is definatley an inconvience for ME..but i have to leave the ME part out of it and get my daughter the best treatment i can. i agree with the person "above" ......the quality of care is most important!!!! you will have the wait and frustration anywhere! Good luck and God Bless.

I just recently switched my dd to a clinic that is three hours away, but it is so worth it. We see Dr. Bauer at the Children's Hospital in Little Rock, AR. He is awesome, has an excellent nurse named Sonya, and a dietician who is always quick to call back and very knowledgable.
We are so glad we decided to switch from the clinic close to home. Like the others said it is an inconveniece, but if it is better for your child then that is what you should do. You can't mess around with incompetent people when you are dealing with a life threatening disease.
