Applying to colleges

It really depends on Josh.. If he wants to go public with it then I would mention it. I didn't mention it in my college application..

Honestly it can go either way, to show ones strength and ability to overcome insurmountable health issues can really speak well for a candidate.

I ended up once in the nursing program telling the instructors and whoever needed to know.. ( Like my micro teacher, so she wouldn't make me grow PA in a dish)

Also I got pretty sick in the end and ended up going to school on IVS. Everyone was great about it except for the director of my program.. She was opposed to me being in school and made my life hard.. In the end I graduated with a ton of honors one being "Most persistant student of the Year" award..

Is Josh planning on going away for college of staying home and commuting?

I didn't mention it, but I also had the CFF on my resume, which I sent with apps, since I have been speaking at events since I was litle. And once at the college (Emory Univerity) and then later at law school (Columbia) I was perfectly fine with everyone knowing...never experienced any real discrimination and found out that it's MUCH better to have profs know ahead of time.

While I was at college one student died from CF and the school had a huge fundraiser for the CFF to show its support. I ended up speaking there, and it was so rewarding for me. Bottom line, if CF is really a part of your son/daughter's life, don't encourage him/her to hide it, even in an application setting. I think some of us gain a lot from being open, others may feel more comfortable not sharing, and then of course there is all sorts of middle ground. But schools will not necessarily react negatively - on the contrary I think some might be extremely impressed (rightfully so!) at the obstacles a CFer overcomes to go to school <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
