Me again...

Just wanted to add that hot showers definitely help... as do heating pads. However, you can't really be a productive and functional person while in the shower, lol. I also find I'm more prone to getting sick during a flare, because I don't want to cough (or exercise) because it hurts.. and so I don't get effective airway clearance. I try to take pain killers so I can still cough and exercise so I'm not sacrificing my lungs.

I have tried to tie it to changes in weather, stress levels, menstrual cycle, lung infections... whenever I think I have identified the pattern, my next flare up defies that pattern. So I have been unsuccessful in identifying a cause <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

Another question...are we all women with this issue? I am 30/f and my sister is 28/f - my sister started having these symptoms (flare -ups) 2 years ago and I had my first one about a year ago. I am currently taking plaquinil 2X's a day...it seems to have helped a little bit, but did still have that flare 2 weeks ago, and on prednisone now ( I am a monster on it! )

Thanks.

I am in pain every day. My doctor gave me prednisone and I am hesitant to take it. I don't usually take anything for the pain. I do heat, heat and more heat. Tylenol just puts me to sleep... does very little for the pain. Not able to to take ibuprofen due to hemopytsis and general blood thinning effects. I used to think it was weather related or increased activity related. I get it no matter what I do or not do.

My wrists, ankles and my neck is the worst. On really bad days my back will ache and even my fingers will hurt (so much that I can't type). I also get a rash on my face on really bad days.

I have gotten the rash too... I've heard this called vasculitis, and it's a part of Still's disease. I actually haven't gotten the rash once since being on plaquenil.

luv2run - Woohoo! You are the only other CFer I have heard that was put on plaquenil for this as well. It hasn't 'cured' me either, but definitely made my episodes less severe and further apart. If the severity continued at the rate it was prior to me taking plaquenil, I would have lost my mind by now! As a side note, plaquenil (aka hydrochloroquine is on the cff's drug development pipeline as an anti-inflammatory... so hopefully this is doing some good for our lungs, too!)
