Arthritis?

I hear more and more about this all the time. For a long time, I felt alone. I am 36 and first remember having these "flare ups" when I was 9 yrs old. Through the years they came and went. I would also have a rash-little red bumps that were hot to the touch, along with pain all over and also a fever. When I was young it got so bad that I wouldnt be able to walk for sometimes up to a week. I did take Celebrex for about 3 years during my 20's and it did help for most of the time. Over the last few years I was having flare ups so frequently, that I was taking prednisone every day just to be able to function. My joints were hurting so badly on a daily basis. The arthritis was so bad that I couldnt open any type of can or bottle. I couldnt bend without help. Every joint in my body hurt. I was referred to a rheumatologist. He first put me on plaquenil as well..didnt do me much good. He switched me to methotrexate which they use for rheumatoid arthritis. It has done wonders for me! I believe it has been almost a year, but I dont have to use the prednisone as much. When I overdo it or put my body through a lot, a flare up occurs. My rheumatologist believes that it definitely is a CF issue...it is just so hard to diagnose. But as more and more CF people come forward about it...I believe more research will be done.
Just wanted to add that my brother also suffers from it...although not quite to the extent that I have. He gets the flare ups, but can take prednisone and a few days later he is better and might not have another flare up for quite some time.
Good luck to all! If any of you have any questions...I'd be glad to help in any way I can...or just talk!

Hey everyone. I had the rash with the "arthralgia" pain too. I went to dermatologist who took a biopsy and found it was granuloma annulare - a rash sometimes associated (correlational only) with diabetes. Wow - a few months later I was dx with cfrd. Since taking insulin the rash has only reappeared once maybe twice. Sadly the horrible arthralgia pains continue.
Sue- my rheumatologist did tons of blood work & found a positive ANA titer: speckled. Whatever that means! But nothing that is conclusive.
I am sorry you are having to deal with this

I've had the same symptoms for many, many years. I also take Plaquenil which helps. Lyrica also helps the muscle pain. Hot baths, deep tissue massage, heat packs alternated with ice packs, Lidocaine patches. My neck, spine, back, hands, knees, feet hurt. Sometimes even my teeth. (that was a joke!) Of course I'm old as Methuselah so I guess I'm supposed to hurt. but this started in my teens also. It's been much worse this week.

Methuselah?? Your teeth?? You crack me up Joan!
But hey honestly, sometimes my jaw hurts so bad I can't open my mouth to shove the mountains of food in. And this is Not a good thing <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
