Asking the teacher

My oldest dd, no cf, is in 3rd grade this year. Our school district has sent out a mass notification that "flu" like symptoms are on the rise (more than likely H1N1). Nothing exactly new but still worry about my little CFer getting sick...from ANYTHING that my 3rd grader could bring home <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> We are being very diligent about washing hands, etc but should I ask her teacher if she would notify me if there is a rise in illness in her class? Has anyone else done that? I am already doing everything I know to do to keep us ALL healthy.
Thanks!

I don't think there is anything wrong with asking that. You aren't asking for anything outrageous, just information. I hope that the teacher is willing to keep the lines open about this and any other topics.

Absolutely, ask! It's a good idea, and I'm suddenly wondering why, as mom to a CF'er, her first grade sister, and as a TEACHER, I didn't think of it myself! It doesn't hurt to ask, and I'd think the teacher would be more than willing to let you know if anything big comes up. She may also be willing to give your daughter's class a little lesson in WHY extra precautions are necessary.

I do have to say, that if my older daughter's school continues with the precautions and extra education that they are putting in place this year, I'll feel better about Emily starting 4K there next year. They are really do a lot to encourage the kids to be healthier during flu season. My daughter gave us a lesson in how to wash our hands, and has been lecturing her sister about keeping her fingers out of her nose (Oh, if she would only listen...see my last blog!)

I think I will send an e-mail to the teacher, myself! thanks for the idea!
