Jordan was dx with asthma when he was 5. As you may know, he wasn't dx with CF until he was 15. His asthma usually causes him more trouble than his CF. The reason I feel I can say that is because I have asthma as well.
Quite often, Jordan & I will have breathing problems at the same time. This is because asthma is often aggravated by environmental conditions. Humidity, cold air, the wind blowing pollen around, or just walking into a store where there are strong scents can trigger an "asthma attack". You can feel the tightness in your chest even before others can see your symptoms.
When Jordan was little, I learned to watch his throat & stomach to monitor his breathing. If his throat was sucking in (significantly) & his stomach was pooching out when he inhaled, I knew he was starting to have problems. The small airways become very inflamed, and most of the air that goes in, goes into the stomach rather than the lungs.
After an asthma attack, I always have to burp a lot, because I took so much air into my stomach trying to get it into my lungs.
