well life expectancy isn't an estimate. they have a national database and record the ages of people at death for that calendar year. no estminating involved.

and i doubt the median and mean would vary so much by 6 years. i have a feeling that the US mean being 36.8 wouldn't yield a 31 year median.

but i do buy into the journalists getting things wrong. that's for sure. so maybe that's the case.

anyone from the UK have knowledge of what the real #s are according to the CF Foundation in the UK or equivalent? I would be curious.

i bet you could call the CFF and find out.

i'm still interested to hear what you UK people think is the reason that the life expectancy is 6 years less than the US's.....

to be fair, i've asked my CF center why they think their center's life expectncy is less than minnesota's. so i'm not just interested in the UK. i'm always interested in differences <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I put an answer in the family section where you posted the same question, it was a long answer, well long enough for me. Well it was my thoughts on it anyway. I was the only one to answere there, then I found this thread in adults with all the response , typical eh. lol

you know i have been aware of the difference ever since i came on this forum, so it has always intrigued me. I thought that maybe it was something to do with meds, but they are pretty much the same, the only thing i found that was different , was the use of the vest. Not that I am saying that this is the sole reason, it may take up a percentage.

The health of Scotland in general is not that high in relation to say, the rest of Europe. Traditional heavy industries like steel works, mining and ship building have left scars on the environment and pollution was high. It is a lot cleaner now. Smoking and drinking in Scotland is now in the decline, so we will see better health in the future i've no doubt.
And there is a high level of social degregation, (is that the right word), high levels of 'hard' drug use. What all this has to do with the average age of CFers, I don't honestly know. But it must go some ways towards it.

Oh, don't know if that all applys to England

Edited: Thats a new one for me, moving one reply into another thread, didn't know that could be done.lol
