birds area no-no for lung disease. they're the only animals i was told flat out that i could not have under any circumstances, although fish are not really recommended according to my doc now b/c of bacteria in the tank -- apparently it's only an issue if the CFer is responsible for cleaning the tank.
i wouldn't think that just being in the house with birds and then returning home to your CFers would be a huge issue. talk it over with you doc, obviously, but if it were me i would wash up thoroughly as soon as i got home, change shirts before hugging/holding my kids, and probably avoid handling the birds or cleaning out their cages if at all possible. but i will, for example, go into the bird house at a zoo for a minute or two, and obviously CFers are around birds and their poop incidentally just by going about their lives outside. so i really think the issue is more with prolonged exposure. just my totally un-medical opinion.
