Boiling Nebs

Honestly, I don't remember ever being told to sterilize the nebs. I just assumed that you needed to do it form experience when my son was using nebs for his asthma when he was younger.

And then when I came on here is when I really realized about cleaning the nebs.

Austin goes to clinic on sept 29 so i am gonna ask the RT about it and see what they tell me to do.

We boil his nebs after every use. I was told that was enough. Aidan has cultured Staph since birth but has been healthy otherwise.

I know that not all bacteria is killed by boiling; there are some bacteria that form spores to help them survive the heat (Botulism, for example). However, I've never heard of it being a problem with nebulizers.

The instructions that came with our nebs says to soak them in HOT water mixed with antibacterial soap for 5 minutes. Then rinse them. Then boil them in water for 5 minutes.

That is what we do.
