C Diff and CF

My daughter has C diff. again. This is the second time she has had it and she is only 6 and a half months old. It always seems to happen in the hospital. This time we were in the hospital for half a day for her broviac removal on Thurs. and she had diarheaa all day Fri. and woke up Sat. to vomitting. We took her to ER sure enough C. Diff. Is this common for CF? She's also on amoxcycillin for an ear infection but the ER doctor says it was unlikely that it was this antibiotic that could have caused it. What are ya'lls thoughts and experiences with C. diff? Is it common, or is she just one of the "lucky" ones who seems to get it?

Hi

My experience with C-diff happened after my transplant when my immune system was greatly suppressed. I never had it again.

I am taking a probiotic regularly for preventing C-diff and othe unwanted parasites and other nasty infections. Probiotics are a must for healthier intestinal flora.

It is called orthbiotic and you can only buy this from a licenced health care practitioner. I get this from my acupuncturist and take one pill daily.

I have tried many probiotics but with orthobiotic, I have seen a huge difference in my digestion. There is one strain in this pill that is known to treat C-diff.

I plan on staying on this particular probiotic for a while. I need to take immunosuppressive therapy and some transplant doctors give their patients probiotics. My doctor gave me Jarrow in the ICU. Jarrow is ok but I have tried other brands that are better for me.

You can contact my acupuncturist who sells this Probiotic. This particular probiotic does not need refridgeration.

Sorry to hear that Ellie has C-Diff. Emma has had it once. She was only on antibiotics once and she got C-Diff.

I brought in a diaper and had them test it. The doctors were shocked that she had it too.

I was told that it is one of the most common things that CF'ers get and it is due to antibiotic use.

I hope she feels better soon!

Well, I have never had c-diff, at least that I know of. In fact, I had never even heard of it until I came to this site. I just wanted to mention that I just got done taking a course of Amoxicillin. I had almost daily diarrhea. I assume that was from the antiobiotic. The last time I was on it, I had taken 1 dose and a couple hours later, I was VERY sick to my stomach and almost threw up several times.

Since I have never had c-diff, I can't give you any advice on that, but I did just want to mention my side effects from the amoxicillin.

Sorry she's having problems. Hope she gets better soon.
