I know this is getting off topic but might as well add my $.02 to this subject as well. [the other subject on this board, correctional/rehabilitation]

I believe that some people do not want to be rehabilitated at all. Then again I do believe that our current correctional facilites are not set up to rehabilitate these prisoners. After a while it becomes routine to them. They screwed up, get free meals and a place to sleep. A few lectures and a pat on the back of the hand, time served. Some of these people have been through that so much that it's no big deal to them any more. The law/jail holds no fear for them anymore due to over use. [too much jail time?] Then like Jacobus adds a lot of minor/non violent [drug or other] offenders are put into jail with hardened criminals. It's like a school for crime that way. Unfortunately I'm not just spouting off on this topic having no clue what I'm talking about because both of my parents are repeat offenders and have been in jail/prison quite a few times. It saddens me because I know they've made the choices they have with the knowledge that they were eventually going back into that situation. You wonder how it could change for the better. =/

christ almighty! well, im not going to get into any hurricane katrina talk. ive already had enough of the subject because ive been battling it out with people from a fashion forum. as you can imagine, with a fashion forum, im not really getting far with people who spend most of their days talking about what brand of expensive shirt or perfume they bought today, care of mummy and daddy. but what id like to say is wow, another bunch of gutless anons. they just never seem to stop eh. something that i thought was absolutely hilarious was the person trying to tell us that the person in question was nice just because they had a transplant and visited a friend in hospital. hey, i have a dog and 2 cats, does that make me nice? i have strawberry creams and chocolate pudding in my pantry, that makes me nice yeah? ah, anons

oh and someone put this up in the other chat forum for me. converting litres to gallons, petrol prices in australia are around $5 per gallon.

a good one is 'im a parent you can trust me'. what the! since when were parents automatically good people? i once had a really bad blood collecter say to me 'its ok i know what im doing i have a daughter the same age as you'. needless to say she missed the vein twice and had to give up. then again what do you expect, she had 2 cm long acrylic nails on. she couldnt feel a vein to save her life.

It's okay, I have a daughter the same age as you. That makes her immediately qualified to stick sharp things in you? Huh. I always figured it took some kind of degree and skill.

Oh yeah? Well, I have two cats and a boyfriend (who's kind of like a pet by himself)! I must be super-nice!! (wow, I'm totally pointless and stupid...) Heh. Nice to find some humor, though.

Anyway, for Claudette and whoever else wants to read it, my blog is http://spaces.msn.com/members/demonicgate/. I'll warn you, though, anyone who's easily offended should NOT go there. I'm rather bit*hy most of the time If you want my opinion on the hurricane situation, it should be the second blog on there. Stong language too, not for kiddies. You've been warned. Have fun!!

As for the battle of who's right and who's wrong, I say we should just save ourselves the elevated blood-pressure and drop it. This topic could go on forever if we don't... Each to our own, you know? What's important is getting America back on track and helping those who've lost everything to this disaster. And no, I'm not trying to be noble. That's just my opinion.

Ooh oohh! I forgot the boyfriend! And he's worse than a pet, kind of like a child. More trouble, more responsiblity, more work. Hahahaha. Okay I'm really done with the short useless comments now.

Oh, and as for Julie (back to the reason this whole topic is here!), you go girl! You shouldn't have to be wary of the things you say just because of a group of under-developed stalker morons. Give 'em h*ll!!

Well the three of you are giving me a good laugh, I just PM'd kybert about how I have 2 cats (one is deaf, one has no tail), two dogs and a step-father in law from hell (just to throw that in there, he just called). Can I be in the nice people group too??? lol. It was only after I sent that, I noticed that Em and lilith said similar things.

I have actually be chuckling all day regarding this situation and the things some people choose to post. I totally disagree with some of the opinions on here, so what. I think this way, you think that way-whatever. We'd have nothing to talk about if we all agreed.

As far as posting his email address and address, the guy was DUMB ENOUGH to send it to me, I didn't go looking for it. BTW, you don't need permission to do that kind of stuff.

Lilith, I am exhausted tonight but I will check out your blog tomorrow. It's nice to know others think like me.

Amanda, I am sorry you feel the way you do about what I posted. When I wrote that post a ways back (on this site) I grouped everyone in together and I shouln't have. There was you, jen and a few others I won't mention by name who did actually come back and thank me for what I did to help them, and always said Hi to me when I popped into chat on the CF2 website. I guess the point I was trying to get across is that a majority of people, a majority of the time are like that. I am sorry about that, I know you have always been most welcoming to me. I am also sorry that you feel ignored on this site. I tried to send you a Private message a few weeks back, just to say hi (since discovering the feature a month ago, I use it all the time) but yours is turned off. I think if you go into update your profile, you can change that if you wish. Not sure if you intended it to be that way or not. I hope that you do continue to post on here, I really do.

Claudette, you are probably right about the "unproductive" word but not too much I can do about it now.

I do appreciate the support, comments, and laughs from everyone. Even those that have different views than I do, we don't have to agree to tolerate and get along with eachother.

Jacobus, I agree with you that part of stopping a pattern (crime in this case) from recurring is examining why people are breaking the laws in the first place. Sometimes there can be a justifiable reason for it. Just like someone who pulls a gun and shoots a person who has entered their house to rob and murder them. Did they murder just the same as the criminal that came into their house, sure they did. Were there extenuating circumstances that lead to it, yes. Does that make a difference, sometimes it does and sometimes it should! I completely agree with you on that point. What I don't agree with is people breaking the law because they know the government will be their to provide for their family. The people who need the help the most in the U.S. THE WORKING FAMILIES WHO MAKE TOO MUCH TO QUALIFY FOR ANY ASSISTANCE BUT DON'T MAKE ENOUGH TO PAY ALL THEIR BILLS, MEDICAL EXPENSES, NECESSITIES... are the only ones not recieving it. That is what enrages me!

Thanks to all!!!

The problem is that 'who needs it most' is inherently subjective.

Well that part can be interpreted... that those people need it most because they're not actually getting it. Anyone who isn't getting money that needs it needs it most. Haha. Absolutely, yes, it is subjective. But I hear Julie, it's irritating to be in that middle ground... where you make enough so you don't qualify, but still not enough to get out of debt!

Exactly, that's my point. To Julie, the people (presumably like her) who make some income but not enough to cover their expenses, are the ones who 'deserve' the help. Others might say (like you have) that those with no source of incme at all are more deserving of the money. This just highlights the fact that everyone's own opinion is formed from the persepctive of their own experience and/or understanding. If one acknowledges this, then it soon becomes very obvious that speaking in terms of who deserves what, doesn't get you anywhere near finding a solution. In fact more often than not, it leads to hatred and scapegoating.

"You feel that people with cf are productive because you have personal experience of what it is like to live with cf. Did you ever stop to think that all those 'lazy' people have problems of their own, which can be just as debilitating as cf. "

Well said Jackobus !

ReneeP- I hope the people who claim ' I could get out with no money or transportation' read your entry very carefully.

You and your family are in my thoughts.

I have nothing meaningful to add but.... this is good stuff. It is much more entertaining when someone else is getting attacked.

Julie, I will say this. Whether your opinion is right or wrong in the eyes of our society kudos to you for speaking your mind...no matter what, that is right!

In hopes of getting my own personal attack I will complain that it cost $54 to fill up the GTO the other day because were getting gouged because of the hurricane.

Luke, good to see you. I thought about you last night and wondered if you'd chime in.

Yes, it sucks when I have to fill up my Tahoe for $75. I know compared to other countries gas is still cheap for us but, come on, compared to our prices 1 year ago, this is a scam.

Renee P, yes I definitely think you're right in that there was the attitude of "it'll never happen to me". Even the gov/mayor must have subscribed to this because the hospitals were not evacuated nor were any plans made beyond opening the doors to the Superdome which in my opinion was a total waste of time given that the Superdome is still in New Orleans (i.e. the hurricane zone). Unlike you however I am less critical of the federal government for their handling of the situation afterward (although I do believe things should have been handled very differently) and really think the blame lay square on the gov/mayor for not doing more beforehand.

Look at what they've been able to accomplish in Houston. With little notice they've basically set up a temporary city for the refugees. Sure it's not an ideal situation but at least they're organized and have a long term plan beyond just opening the doors. Thank God for them.
