Can our kids take enzymes in something besides applesauce?

Same here! We have always used the "shotgun" method as well. Our son would just spit them out if we mixed with babyfood. We just open up the capsul and pour em' in, always giving him his bottle right afterwards to wash them down.

I second Liza on the baby bananas, I still use them to this day. Vinny just hates the texture of applesauce (but loves apples and apple juice). But when he was younger we also poured the beads right in his mouth, immediately followed by the bottle. I say whatever works is okay! They're not helping if they're splattered all over the walls, right?

what about if you put a tiny bit of apple juice in a cup, let her drink it and down they go.....hopefully, or you could use a straw.

but whatever works go with it......make sure they dont chomp down on the capsules though, that puts a bitter taste in their mouth, plus the capsules dont work as well.

Have you tried flavored applesauces? There are some low sugar and natural varieties that are not as sweet either. On of my daughters just opens and drops them in her mouth and does great. The older one used to be able to swallow the pills, but for the past 4 months just can't seem to do it. So she now has to use applesauce (which she hates). She gags on them by just opening them like her sister. We have to used flavored applesauce. And if we are out to dinner we used ice cream if possible. It is a challenge, especially since she is almost 9 years old! She swallowed them whole for over 5 years, then all of the sudden a mental block went up, and she can't do it! We even had to switch from taking 4 Ultrase MTs to 10 tiny, little Creons that they take as infants for goodness sakes! It's been a nightmare. I just wish I could get her past her mental block and back to just popping those pills in and swallowing them down

My husband went out and bought four different flavors of applesauce. I actually am thinking its not the applesauce she hates, its just eating!! I don't know why???

Today I took a no-nonsense approach, like I do with all the meds and just put a little on top of the applesauces, squeezed her cheeks lightly and got the applesauce in. She fought it, but didn't spit them out. I'm sure that's next!!

Max was/is a terrible eater. Early on he had more texture issues -- no applesauce, ground meat, toast. We pretty much stuck with bananas for the enzymes, mixed it up with some pears, pineapple/orange. We just found something he liked and stuck with it.

When he started eating normal food (ground up) at 6 months, the daycare SWORE he could tell that there was one, teeny tiny little pea in his beef stew and he'd refuse to eat it.

I do remember having these issues when my girls were toddlers. My girls did not like regular applesauce, but they did like baby food fruits, like Gerber peaches or whatever. We used babyfood for what seemed like forever. The texture is so different than that of regular applesauce, and it's not sweetened.

We have been known to use mashed potatoes (when cooled down), whip cream (Yummmm), whatever it takes. I think we even used guacomolie (spell?) once in a Mexican rest. when Kayla was little.

Yes, applesauce is ideal, but our CF doctor said that if it's not sitting there very long, then other foods are ok. With Kayla having problems with hers in the past few months, our CF doctor has even had me mixing them with Nerds candy. Sometimes you just get desperate.

Good luck!

We had the same problem with our son, so we tried all kinds of things. We finally discovered he loves maple syrup. We just put the enzymes in a small spoon and squirt some syrup on them and he takes them with a smile.
