I was a journalism major and if any of you have an interest or talent in that direction, it can make a great career. You can freelance write for newspapers, do corporate PR work, get into grant writing, try your hand at advertising...the list is long. Many corporations now have telecommuting with only occasional days needed in the actual workplace.

I work as a teacher and I would say it completely depends on what type of school you work at. I work at a small Catholic school and they are wonderful when I am sick. I have been out for long periods of a time and although the sub lessons are a pain to write, my subs are wonderful at winging it. It really is a family atmosphere where everyone pitches in if someone is sick. Yes, it does affect your health but I have also thought you should do something you love so that is why I teach.

Thank you, that is exactly what I was looking to hear. I love what I do, I can't imagine doing anything else. I don't want to create a world where I'm a slave to CF. I obviously am saavy enough not to put myself in harm's way, but I do not want CF to govern every aspect of my life. It wouldn't be fair. I just have to get over the hump of being new. My supervisor has been very understanding this week.

I'll just have to bust my butt like Tiffa said earlier in this post and make them see that I am an asset to their organization!

I obviously am saavy enough not to put myself in harm's way, but I do not want CF to govern every aspect of my life. It wouldn't be fair. I just have to get over the hump of being new.
