CF and Marijuana

Hi! my name is Ryan and i am a 19 year old male who has had a liver
transplant in 2001 and have had only a few stays in the hospital
for infections due to anti-rejection meds. I have been smoking pot
for several years now, i believe i started at age 16. I KNOW I HAVE
CF PLEASE SPARE THE COMMENTS ON THAT. I GOT MY OWN ISSUES. I was
wondering if anyone else has been smoking pot for a while and has
noticed an upswing on there pfts and less coughing up sputum and
just plain being healthy! My last pfts were the best in my life
(158%). So just curious if anyone else has had this?

I don't wish to call you down for smoking. I used to smoke pot also, so I hardly have any place to talk. I just wanted to ask, have you ever considered eating pot brownies instead? They generally give a better high anyway. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I am pro brownie also. But they have proved marijuana can help reduce inflammation I think. I don't know of any CF research, but I guess like SeanDavis always says, whatever works, keep doing it. Just because it hasnt' been tested on CFers, doesn't mean anything.

i asked my doc about marijuana use back when i dabbled in drugs and was told that it is a bronchodilator, so breathing at the time of use can be a little better. who knows what kind of long term damage is being done, though. smoke is smoke in my opinion. i was told that as long as it was occassional use, though, i should be fine and i believe it's true. got through my crazy drinking/smoking/anything else with an "ing" phase none the worse for wear so far.

the greatest side effect was laziness, i found that i got nothing done while smoking. go to work at 6am, get done and smoke a bowl and watch sports or play video games with friends, go to school for a few hours, go and smoke some more and watch tv and play video games. it was pretty unfullfilling looking back on it, although i did have a lot of fun hanging out with my friends. somehow i pulled a's and b's in the process, too, thank god for the photographic memory!

I think that's the main problem with brownies, is it takes more weed in them than you'd need to get high if you were smoking it. But you also don't have to eat as much, and you get higher, and it lasts longer. So basically, if you can afford to buy more weed all at once up front, you're not missing out. You just have to be able to buy kind of a lot at once.

I admit I was a chronic smoker for awhile a couple of years back. Now I just do it occasionally. I found that my health never got any worse when I was smoking, but only better. I cough more up, my breathing feels clearer, and my pfts have never changed for the worse, but have only gotten a bit better. I've tried the pot brownies, and found that it gave a different stone then smoking. Definitly a stone I didn't like, as it was more of a body stone - my body felt heavy, etc. I find you have to use ALOT of pot to make just a few brownies. That being said I'm an amateur, and it was a first time for making them, so maybe I did something wrong, but I don't like them. If anything, pot puts weight on me (munchies), and that's definitly a good thing.

Okay, I feel it is my duty to the world to keep you from smoking. So, the way to make excellent pot brownies.

You take a pound of butter, since THC is fat soluble, and melt it in a pan. Then you take anywhere from half an ounce to an ounce of Marijuana, depending on the desired potency of both the butter and the potency of the pot. Be sure to remove the seeds, then boil in the butter for anywhere from 3 to 10 minutes, being careful not to burn it. The butter will take on a greenish color from the pot. Then run the melted butter through a strainer to take out the leftover leaves. Now you have the butter you need to make brownies. Refrigerate it before using it in a recipe as a substitute for regular butter, mix it up before using, as the THC crystals sometimes sink to the bottom.

Here's the brownie recipe we used, but any will do.

8- 1 ounce squares of unsweetened chocolate
1 cup butter
5 eggs
3 cups sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1-1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
2-1/2 cups chopped pecans or walnuts, toasted

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a 9 x 13 pan.
Melt chocolate and butter in a saucepan over low heat; set aside. In a mixer, beat eggs, sugar and vanilla at high speed for 10 minutes. Blend in chocolate, flour and salt until just mixed.

Stir in the nuts. Pour into prepared pan.
Bake for 35-40 minutes. (Don't overbake.) Cool and eat. CAREFUL not to eat too many, you will get so stoned you' ll get sick.

I'm sorry-but I can't believe I'm reading this. Cut the crap and say I want the high, and don't want the possible side effect on CF.
There's other broncodialators-called intal, proventol, albuterol, and advair, ect..
And there's herbs, and there's OO like Sean Davis says.

Um...*Pushing Poindexter glasses back on bridge of nose*...isn't Marijuana still illegal in the U.S., but now legal in Canada?
I'm kinda surprised how "knowledgeable" everyone is in the "Mary Jane" sector!
I had a few negative experiences with Pot, none of which was of my choice!
One case, was the Pot Brownies! Some guy I used to work with had some home-grown at his place, and one day, his friend offered me a brownie, and didn't say anything til after I ate it! I was a bit upset, due to the fact that I already had health issues with Pot, and I most certainly didn't want to consume it without it being my decision to do so. (I don't even recall it having any effect on me, either!)
The next experience, and thank God, no cops ever pulled them over, was when I was working for a rent-a-car agency, shuffling cars and working at minimum wage during my college years. We would all get into a 8 passenger van, and go to another airport, or lot to retrieve the cars for our lot, or we'd get extra cars when there was some big event going on in our city.
More than once, I was in a van with at least five people who decided to lite-up. Needless to say, I was both nervous and angry about the situation. I couldn't just say, "pull over and let me out", and was, at that time, not self-confident enough to bring it up to the offenders...but I certainly disliked the smell after that incident.
Though, I had heard that Pot "burns brain cells", I forgot that I heard about it being a bronchial dilator somewhere. (so which one is better?)
In short, I don't condone others, but I just say "No".

LOL....Allie you cant cook so you say, but you have a recipe for these special brownies....That is so funny! Ryan, I cant come down on you about smoking pot. I did it sparatically (more in high school) up until just before I got pregnant with my daughter. I stopped liking the feeling & it took me days to bounce back. I dont drink much for the same reasons. If you wish to continue....I highly recommend at least trying the brownies to see if you get the same physica benefits. Even if you are coughing crap up, the smoke has to hurt you eventually. I mean its smoke for crying out loud! Good Luck!

Now I could be wrong - because I'm not very knowledgable on this subject, but I believe that pot is still illegal in Canada, but you cannot go to jail for it. You're simply fined if you're caught with a certain amount of pot (I'm not sure how much you have to have on you to be charged) on you.
