CF and Sleep Apnea??

I am a 27 year old with cf and I was recently hospitalized here in Oregon at the Oregon Health Science University for a cf exasperation. The Cf care team noted that I didnt sleep at all day or night for the whole two weeks I was in there. They are concerned that I might have sleep apnea. But when I went to see a sleep specialist and explained that I wake up choking for air, and have breathing problems at night, he gave me a sleep log for a month. I filled it out and went back.

I explained that constantly getting up every fifteen minutes because I couldnt fall asleep wasnt helping me. He said that I just needed to change my sleeping habits and if I dont fall asleep in fifteen minutes while laying in bed that I should get up and go do something else until I get sleepy again. Problem is that I end up being up for days on end.

If I lay in bed in the dark for about two hours or so I eventually just pass out from exhaustion or from suffering from too much pain in my system. The sleep specialist simply said that I had insomnia and didnt do any sleep study or anything. I still have my tonsils and I am afraid that I might have sleep apnea. Im sticking with what my cf care team told me. They are very concerned with this matter. I am getting frustrated by not being able to sleep at night. And when I do get some sleep, I wake up feeling more exhausted than I felt when I finally fell asleep. Can anyone please help me?? I welcome any suggestions and advice!!!

Thanks!

Do you use oxygen at night? Maybe you're waking up because your oxygen levels are dropping too low.
For Jake, the oxygen rental company did an at-home study where they measured his oxygen saturation levels for one night. He stayed below 90% most of the time, which can really affect your quality of sleep. Based on those results, insurance covers our concentrator rental and he feels more rested in the morning.

I was thinking oxygen while sleeping may help also . Not sleeping can make you feel horrible and can affect your cf in a negative way. I've had times where i keep waking up at night and in the morning and the rest of the day i feel more tired then when i went to sleep the night before....so i know the exhaustion you are talking about. I can't understand why they havent done an actual sleep study....certainly sounds like you may have sleep apnea.
