CF Clinic visits

I was just curious how many of you have to put on a mask & disenfect your hands as soon as you arrive at the CF Clinic? We do that at my clinic & I just assumed it was the protocol at all clinics, but after reading some of the posts here, I wondered if all clinics practice that same protocol.

at my clinic we are put into a room right away so we arent around any other CF patients and we dont have to wear a mask but we must wash our hands when we get there and when we leave and the docs have to wear gowns and gloves throughout the visit

At my old clinic we had no precautions, but here at my new one some of the patients wear masks, but not all. I don't know why those that do do, I do not. We all wear gloves for PFT's, but that's all. We all hang out in the waiting room together and so we get to talk. They don't care if we go into each other's rooms either at clinic or in the hospital. HollyCatherynPS - Sorry I don't know why I am showing up as anonymous. I'm logged in.

I don't understand why but every CF clinic is different unfortunatly,I have been to 4 different ones. At the most recent one at University of New Mexico we would wait in the outpatient room until we would get a room and you could wear a mask but not to strict about that. If you had b. cepacia you were seen at another day. I just went back to Dallas so I'll get to see what there routine is 2morrow

wow, my clinic sounds slack compared to everyones. i wash my hands before i go in, off my own back, as well as after but am never asked to. i've never worn a mask in my life, nor gloves. doctor doesnt wear mask/gloves either and we all go into the same room. wonder how my brother got cepacia... though he does go on different days to me now, i assume that all the cepacia carriers go on the same day but i'm not entirely sure.

my clinic is pretty disorganized. sometimes we use antibacterial hand stuff when we have our pft's (if the RT remembers), but usually not. the docs don't wear gloves or anything and i don't see them even wash their hands most of the time when they come in my room! yikes! they try to keep us seperate when we first get to the clinic by getting us in rooms, but usually the techs who are checking people in aren't fast enough and we end up waiting in a waiting room together until its our turn to have temps, weight, etc. done. then, we're escorted to a room. plus, when they do the temp taking, etc., they don't wipe anything off or use sanitizer or anything even though we're going in one after another! urgh!!! i don't feel the infection control is very good at all and i'm thinking i'll be going to a different clinic in the future.

Hey! I go to Children's in Dallas. Is that where you're going? I've only been twice now because we just moved up here. Children's is where I was diagnosed, but that was a long time ago. Rosenblatt is pretty good, but no frills, aggressive and a rather hard-liner. It is taking some getting used to having come from down in Temple (TX at Scott & White) where everyone kind of watied for me to tell them what I wanted or needed.

Sorry this is a little random, but just wanted to know if anyone knows anything about the CF center at Children's Hospital in Boston. I'm a recently diagnosed college student and will be having an appt. there soon. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about it. My clinic back home is great and my doc. is superb.

thanks so much for the good recommendation! i've had bad experiances with new doctors while in the process of being diagnosed, so i'm a little wary. I don't know who i'll be seeing, i just took the first appt. I had a cold for about 2 weeks and since have been run down, stomach's been acting up, and my cough has gotten much worse. Climbing stairs, though never a breeze, is leaving me pretty winded. Glad to hear its a good clinic though. Keep well!
