CF Salt and Metals

While chatting with beautifulsoul today, I recollected a post I made many years back...it was in regards to how CF sweat reacts to jewelry and other accessories...as well as anything you handle like your iPod.

I have never linked a topic before, so I don't know whether this will work, but its located in the Adult Forum section and was in regards to how I had to be aware of what kind of watches to wear. This is the Thread I started:

CF salt and watches

(Using the "Search" window in the forums side bar should also bring this thread up)

Basically, elements such as Stainless Steel, Gold, Platinum, Diamonds and probably even Titanium won't react to the salty sweat, but other elements (or metals) such as Aluminum, Pewter, Copper, Bronze, Silver and low-grade steel will rust, or even burn your skin when you sweat (like neclaces or rings)

If you have a phone or iPod, etc. that has connectors exposed that are used for battery charging, connecting to your computer, etc., I would recommend covering it somehow or periodically cleaning it with alcohol or contact cleaner to keep the salt from causing it to tarnish.

Also, be carefull when handling batteries...salt is a conductor and you might feel a bit of a tingle when handling a battery (like a battery button for your calculator, etc.), and that tingle would be the current running through you to meet-up with the other polarity of the battery...

So, some things that wouldn't seem significant for CF'rs would actually become important...

Just some Info I think will be useful since the hot summer weather causes the most trouble with sweat...

Every watch I ever had eventually got ruined from the salt. And don't get me started on phones. I have had to have mine replaced so much and the phone company doesn't understand how this could be happening. The joys of CF
