CHEST PT WHEN CHILD IS ILL

i have nausea issues often. i throw up frequently with my vest during my bouts with this. with a little one though, i'd either do the vest on low settings or do manual as she can tolerate it.
probably good not to disrupt your routine with chest pt, just alter it for her.

We've done both the vest and cpt when DS has been ill. When he was almost a year he got a stomach bug and did fine during his beatments.

And this past year with his vomiting episodes leading up to his bowel obstruction, we still did the vest. I think there was only one or two times that he actually threw up while vesting, but in his case it was going to happen with or without the vest.

I'd say if they're very uncomfortable, truly complaining about the vest making them urpy or causing them pain (vs trying to get out of treatment), then it might be good to try CPT instead.

DS actually continued to do his vest after his bowel obstruction surgery last summer, though at one point I did do CPT a couple of times.

Oh Liza...you made me laugh with your "VS trying to get out of treatment..." How do you know all of Emily's tricks?

I wanted to add that Hill Rom gave us an extra vest when we were having problems with Emily vomiting during PT. She was too little to warn us that it was coming (She probably didn't even know!) and we had more that a few times that it took longer to clean up the mess than to do the rest of the session! We called to see if we could order an extra vest so that we always had a dry one while one was being cleaned. They asked if ours was damaged and we said "No, just stinky," and they sent 2 extras - FREE!

So now, even when we have vomit (Especially the self induced kind, and YES, she's tried it!) the show must go on!

I will skip it occasionally if my kids are asleep because they have a virus. But it usually just once a year I would guess.
