CHEST PT WHEN CHILD IS ILL

Too funny. I'd forgotten about DS and his threats/attempts at vomiting.

His ploy at the hospital was "I gotta go potty". Was quite a production to get his vest & nebs disconnected, as well as unplugging his IV pump and rolling that to the bathroom. Or getting the pee jug -- which I was forever getting yelled at by DH for accidentally shoving it in his face. All the while threatening DS in front of the rts -- "you'd darn well better HAVE to go" And sometimes he'd go several times in an overnight just to spite us, or because he thought it was fun. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

Again it was one of those -- We are waiting for him to poop due to the obstruction/surgery, plus he IS on a LOT of IV fluid, so he very well may have to go... So fine line between really having to go vs. trying to get out of vesting.

As an actual cf'er who had two bowel obstructions since 07, and deal with nausea often since on ivs meds kinda often...

basically cpt is easier than the vest, normally when Im getting super sick like that my mom comes and stays with me and does that.... BUT either way, the coughing is what triggers me to puke so regardless if the airway clearance is working like it is supposed to then I end up puking anyways.

I actually do tend to hold off on treatments, not skip them completely but instead of doing my regular schedule, do a modified one to when I am feeling least nauseous.

In my opinion, though its just me (and my mom probably doesnt agree haha) but if it is like a 24 hour bug I would only do one treatment a day especially if it is just a short sickness, maybe just do the xopenex and skip the coughing part.... you do that if you cough up blood anyways, you know, stop airway clearance and hts/pulmo. although, they might see it as an escape so I can see the dilema.

If it is a nausea lasting long time maybe call the doctor and ask for prescription of zofran (Im not sure if little kids can take it though), because when Im on ivs I am on the pretty constantly to help keep nausea down. And I took it when I had my bowel obstructions.

The worst is having to do treatments with an ng tube, ugh! already having something in your throat, you pretty much gag constantly but at least nothing comes up... just dry heaves.

good luck. sorry if this doesnt help, im not advocating not doign treatments either, I just know its hard to cough when your holding back puke anyawys so then youre not even doing a treatment effectively anyways.
