Yes, I have read it can be caused due to a lack of O2 as well.... but then I read of a lot of people who have very good O2 saturation and or FEV1 at around 100 and they still had clubbing, so who knows????

There are some pictures out there on the google picture search for those who are interested. When I looked at them it reminded me of my step dads finger and toe nails -- I always wondered if it also just happens to some people without any known disease or if it was because he had been a long term smoker (he has since quit)</end quote></div>

My cousin with no CF, but is a diabetic has very severe clubbing. More then I have by far. Odd!

i was told for about 17 years (wasn't diagnoised until i was 2) that i didn't have clubbing inmy fingers. but once i moved to nc and starting going to chapel hill they said i have slight clubbing in my fingers. i can only see it in my finger nails, they curve a little bit more than my mom's or any of my siblings (none of them have cf). i do admit i gross people out with them sometimes. i can stick my finger on a hard surface and make my nail touch my skin and my nail won't break. but i haven't been able to compair my fingers with another cf person in many many years.

Clubbing is generally associated with cardiovascular or pulmonary problems. Often, people who are born with these problems, even if asymptomatic, will still have clubbing. It is not known why the clubbing happens, as it cant really be specifically attributed to low pft's or immediate cardio problems. People can have perfectly normal pft's and/or heart function and still have clubbing. If someone has clubbing, it is more so a tell-tale sign that there are some problems there. I do believe that it can get worse though when the cardio or pulmo problems get worse.

I do not have clubbed fingers, I think that happens more frequently with typical CF but I could be wrong. My doctor did check my fingers and said there is no clubbing.
