Hey guys! My name is Ken and Im 26 w/CF and I currently live in Boston,MA, born and raised, but I recently was on vacation Phoenix,AZ to visit some family. As I was there I noticed it was easier for me to breathe(no bad coughing attacks followed by throwing up) and how easy it was for me to cough stuff up. My allergies seemed to disappear although they reappeared, no lie, the moment I returned home. I was only in Phoenix for a week so Im not sure if it was just a fluke or what. Is there anyone here that lives in Arizona or some place similar? What, if any, are the benefits living in that type of an environment compared to Boston? I recently just finished a 9 month stint on home IV's and Im trying to figure out if moving to a warmer and cleaner climate may improve the quality of living. Any responses will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I live in PA so I can't comment about AZ but I do better in warm weather too. The jist of the thread seems to be that everyone is different! But, a lot of us DO do better in warmer climates. My advice would be to visit again sometime and see how you feel. Hey, it's a medical excuse to vacation. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

And yikes, 9 months on home IVs! I hope you are feeling better soon. Good luck.

Hi Ken,

I am always asked the same thing, but haven't found an answer. We are from the south shore (MA). On one had you get the salt, moist air. One the other hand, its freezing.

I'll be interested to hear what people tell you.

Colorado is a little similar to Arizona in that both places are very dry. My theory regarding my health is that the dry air dries out my secretions, making them stick harder to my airways. I may cough less (a lot less), but I think it leads to more infections, lower functions (more dried up plugs), and general exhaustion. Staying hydrated in this dry air is almost impossible for "healthy" folks and even harder for us Cystics.

I too am considering moving, but to a more humid climate with salty air. It is a toss up though because then there are more allergens to deal with.

...But that is my theory about my health situation... it is a trial and error game! I think it would be impossible for anyone to ever do a study on climate vs. CF health because there are soooo many other variables that differ from location to location.

I bet the most idea place for us would be in a giant bubble filled with HTS and O2! So much for quality of life in that situation though! LOL
