Considering Disability

Lamp,
I was approved for disability in April 2006 (only a month after I applied). I was working a full time job previously but couldn't do it anymore because of my lungs going downhill fast and I was being evaluated for double lung and liver transplants. I officially left my job on March 1 and applied for SSD that same day.

Anyway, yeah you don't qualify for Medicare for 2 years after. My Medicare did not kick in until March of this year....and of course, the transplants had been all said and done for a year...go figure! Also, they take money out of my check to pay for the Medicare and you have to pay more for the drug coverage. My husband has pretty affordable insurance through his work so we have that and then Medicare is 2nd. I don't pay for drug coverage through Medicare because I think it would be ridiculous. Good luck in your search and I hope that things get better for you.

UGH! Arizona. The only state without state funded insurance. Theres comprehensive health insurances pools here. We just have Patient Access Network. You can only make 1600 a month to qualify. They've already denied me. =(

Transplantmommy,
So how are you doing now that you've had your transplant? How do you breath? Is totally different or the same?

Lamp,
You are correct, you will get a check right away but not be eligible for Medicare for 2 years. Have you asked the social worker at the CF Clinic if they can think of anything you can try for assistance??

BTW, very pretty picture!
