Yeah I would get her checked out just to be sure. But I do agree that miralax is probably great in the meantime, I've been on it a lot myself and it has a different mechanism than normal laxatives, so you can be on it longterm. There is something called meconium equivilant. When DS was a baby he had periods of very loose stools, but still had a LOT of stool in his colon. As per his doctor we'd give him some milk of mag and get things cleaned out.

And he did go thru periods of constipation when he switched to whole milk. Again we used milk of mag. If it would have continued or been more frequent, we would've asked for a GI consult or some miralax, but it was manageable at the time. And it was by no means explosive. Milk of mag, like miralax draws liquid from the large intestine to help move things along. It's not like exlax, which is a stimulant form of laxative.

I agree with the other posts. You can use miralax for long periods of time with no problem.

I also agree that you need to make sure there isn't a blockage and yes you can still have explosive stools and have a blockage. I too think it is very important to have her checked to make sure that there isn't a blockage before it does become emergent, which would not be fun for you or your little one. Its much easier to fix before emergent stage verses surgery once it becomes emergent. With that said, I think we are all just encouraging you to just make sure and not saying that there is necesarily a blockage, just better safe than sorry.

Yes of course! And I feel much better having gotten all of your responses. I will start keeping miralax on hand. It is strange, her bowel habits have changed gradually and I just needed to hear someone validate my concerns. We have a doctor's appointment Thursday and I will defintely ask, unless conditions warrant sooner consultation.
