Still, no news on Kayla's cultures. Her appt was Aug 21st, almost two weeks ago!

So, I called her CF nurse again today wanting an update. She said that they still have not come back. She said that where they send them can take up to two weeks. I asked her where they sent them, and all she said was that it was sent out of state to Dr. Lapuna's (spelling?)lab to identify the gram negative bacteria.

If it was PA, they would already know that by now! She cultures Staph and MRSA already.

Soooo, what else is there? Can it be cepacia? I just want to cry. I feel like we have been so good at keeping my daughters and my nephew apart...we always abide by the three feet rule...most of the time much further apart!

If it is cepacia...my husband will forever blame me for it b/c it's my nephew.

When I called my sister and told her what the nurse said, she was just silent. I aksed her who this was? She said that she is sure she has seen this name on Dalton's stuff She said, you know what it could be don't you? I just said yes, and my heart sank.

Just got the call from Clinic. It is Burkholderia Cepacia This is one of the most difficult days of my life... I feel terrible and incredibly sad! I now have to wait until my husband gets home to break the news to him

Maybe it is just me but my thought would be to never let anyone, even family, around me who knowingly has something dangerous like cepacia. I just wouldn't want to chance it. I hope all works out.

OH Tammy -- Hang in there, no sense freaking out until the results are back. I really hope it isn't Cepacia, but if it is. . . it is NOT your fault. You HAVE kept them apart, making you and your family all suffer. I'm sure your husband couldn't possibly look to blame any of you for this awful disease and what it does.

I definatley understand the not being near each other with Cepacia. But I really thought we were staying within the rules of cross infection. I felt like we were so good about it. We even found a lysol that says it specifically kills cepacia on surfaces, and use it all over our homes...myself and my parents.

But, now it doesn't matter. I found the Dr.'s name and it looks like he does specialize in Cepacia. His spelling is LiPuma
