Daughter having pain when breathing

Was she eating something fatty? My husband had the same problem with sudden pain to where he couldn't breath. CF clinic thought it was his lungs but everything checked out fine. Turns out it was his gallbladder. The pain was always in his chest and when he would breath it would make it worse. He just had to have his gallbladder removed and it resolved. I would have your daughters gallbladder checked and make sure that is not the problem since it sounds very similar to what my husband had.

Thanks so much for all the responses. It's such a relief to have this site to go to when I have issues like this. It's 100X more informative than a trip to he ER.

Kacie is fine now...but I know it's just a matter of time before it happens again. She's sleeping now but she was very curious about what you all were going to say so I'm going to share all these posts with her in the morning. Hopefully it will make her feel better... she is very concerned.

These definately sound like possible causes... I am going to do a little more research on all of these possibilies and take some notes about what occured and talk to the dr at our next visit... hopefully it won't happen again before then. If it does, we may just go see her sooner...

Thanks again!!!

Oh, I forgot to answer the question Laurie asked... yes, she was eating something fatty right before it happened. We were eating beef fajitas. And it's funny because there were 8 of us at the table and we had all just been saying how Kacie's plate had so much more oil on it than the rest of ours did.

I'm trying to think back to the last two times this happened and what we had eaten before those attacks... I'll have to ask Kacie in the morning... she has a much better memory than I do.

Thanks again!

I wondered about gas or something digestive too.

I get these sharp shooting pains under my ribs sometimes and it's like I'm paralyzed while they are there. It hurts to move, it hurts to breath, just about anything. I also notice that they "set in" after I've been sitting for awhile (i.e. in the car, watching TV, etc). If I can finally burp or <img src="i/expressions/proudfart.gif" border="0"> (sorry if TMI) it helps or if I can painfully force myself to stand up it eventually goes away. Maybe that creates more room for the gas?? who knows?

Yes, a very good idea to run this by the doctor. I would be interested to hear what he/she says may be the issue with your daughter.
