Depression

My least favorite term I hear all the time and I get so tired of it is "You think you have it bad, but it could be a lot worse." C'mon, you don't say that to someone who is on the verge of swan diving off of a bridge. You cannot say things like that until you have walked in the other person's shoe. That comment acts as a pivot to make you feel guilty for feeling bad.

probably one of the MOST frustrating is, as many have posted, "things could be worse..." or the ever famous "there are people out there who have things much harder than you". for some reason it ALWAYS aggrevates me when people say "don't worry, things will get better soon." i suffer from depression and i also have bipolar disorder, so the things that you hear people say about that! omg, we'd need a whole other topic for that one lol

Either you realize things could indeed be MUCH worse, and you are thankful for what you do have, or you refuse to do so and you continue to have more ammo to feed depression. I was hospitalized in a psych ward when I was in my late teens. Seeing just how crazy those people really were, made me feel quite sane, and it was great therapy for me. I (like many of you) grew up in hospitals, and saw other CF's who were much worse off than I was, and all of them are dead now. Those experiences worked the same way for me as the psych ward did. I also see people who are alone/single and totally miserable, then I cuddle up with my fiance and spoon on the couch while we watch tv. I also see people who have no family and then I spend a birthday dinner and presents with my mom, sisters, and extended family. I mistook this thread at first as someone looking for a pick me up or advice to help out with depression, so if I didn't supply examples of people who give advice to those who are depressed that's annoying, well sorry about that. Depression can be a real battle for people, and yes I have been there as well (the psych ward). Aside from the normal gripes associated with being alive, and those associated with being a CF, I realized that my problems are absolutely nothing when compared to other peoples tragedy they call a life.

And I write this now, with my mom quite possibly dying in the emergency room from heart complications. So I guess hate me for annoying you guys with my simpleton words. I generally am quite happy overall, regardless what is happening.
