Jess had her first Dexascan in May and it showed low/normal. they want to keep an eye on it. what does that mean?

It is crucial that Jess do all she can to build bone during her bone formation years.... this will set the stage for her bone mass in her adult years.
Calcium in pill form and also from foods is essential. So is vitamin D from pills as well as sunlight. Does she take ADEK and Calcium? When was the last time she had her vitamin D levels checked?
Weight bearing exercise is very important as well. Both for her ability to build strong bones but also to help increase the number of insulin receptors in her body, making her ore insulin sensitive and making her less likely to get CFRD.

what are they looking for and what will they do if they find it?</end quote></div>
They are looking for low bone mass. Low bone mass makes a person more prone to fracture - and fracture can have all kinds of consequences. 20% of people who have a hip fracture die within 1 year of the fracture.
Forceful coughing can cause a CFer to break a rib, which of course could have horrible lung consequences (not being able to cough well, do physical activity, etc).
