I'm a lawyer at a NY firm - went straight through from college so 7 years of full time school I agree it's a balancing act, and I think the key is to just find something you love and enjoy so that even if it's physically hard it's emotionally rewarding. And of course the trade off with a full-time job is often good benefits, always a consideration for people w CF who live in private insurance countries. But I definitely think it's an individual choice and experience...you have to do what feels right for you.

Good luck in Amsterdam!

i agree with lawgirl. while you're able and feeling good go for what you want to do! scale the ladder! move up!

i work full time @ a nonprofit doing marketing. on the side i am starting my own non profit. i also am taking an html class that meets once a week.

i still keep my head full of dreams and ambitions. though cf is a weight it almost makes me more motivated. i plan on perhaps returning to school and becoming a web developer and programmer. there is nothing wrong with working full time if you feel it works for you. in accepting my cf i have actually become more "together" with regards to finances, health insurance and career stuff. 'cause if i can hustle now and do really great work it will pay off in the future.

btw i was a teacher too for a year and i HATED IT!!!!!!!! it is the most exhausting job ever--cf or not. but i think i quit 'cause i don't like kids enough <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

I work 20 hours per week at a nonprofit environmental organization. In some ways it is my "dream job" although the job itself isn't much, mostly administrative work. But it is great because I am doing something that I love, something I feel is making a positive difference in the world, I work with great people, and there are great benefits (including health insurance.)

I also write a weekly column for the newspaper here. I got a writing degree in college (took me 5.5 years) and a minor in environmental science. I like to say that I am good at writing but the environment is my passion. By juggling the two jobs now I'm able to fulfill both parts of myself.

Not sure how long I'll keep doing both, but for now I'm really happy with it.

Good luck to you!!

I teach 5th grade full time! My bachelors is in Communications, but I wanted to stay on the school schedule so I got my Masters degree in elementary education. But I must say those "kid germs" have taken there toll on me...especially the first year..but now I think my immune system has been "beefed up" a little bit. I did get MRSA last year, but I also got very sick just a week after I got the FLU shot...there is also have a little boy with CF in my school in 2nd grade, so we have to stay away from each other.

Anyway, teaching is great...M-F, 8:30- 3:30, Weekends off, little holiday's off and of course...summer's off...I usually find time either go in for a quick tune up during vacations, or I just do my IV's at school (you know..the little pumps..I have a port)

At times it get hectic, but overall, we get vacation about every 6 weeks and I have 16 sick days that will acccumulate if I don't use them. (I've used them all last year but only 4 this year..so next year I will have 28!)
