We have two dogs, but we originally set out to get just one for Sophie during a year when she was sick for about nine months. We got the most perfect dog! He sits with her while she does her treatment, actually putting his head in her lap with the vest jiggling his head! He's very sensitive and will stay close to her when she's feeling down. They can really be great when the usual sentiments from parents just don't cut it. Her health has not changed for the worse because of the fur or dander. I don't allow him to sleep in her room tho except on very rare occasions.

As listed on my signature...2 dogs and 4 kitties! Ellie's CF doctor (who's been the center director for over 20 years) was not concerned about pets in the household. They did recommend not sleeping in the same room....but that there really shouldn't be a problem unless they are allergic to the pet. The only thing I have concerns about are litter boxes and all of the dust they can kick up. I would assume that the crystals are bad as they are made of silica - something extremely irritating to lung tissue (think mesothelioma!). I use wheat litter....just a guess that it may be better than clay-based litter as clay particles can accumulate in the lungs (based upon knowledge of pottery persons!). Who knows?! In short - the pets are staying! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
