doctors never listen

umm well when i got admitted it was 604, and now they stay around 2-300, but i actually dropped tnite to 53, and yes they do have me on an insulin coverage, i also take lantus and they upped it to i believe 25u...but also because i have an infection in my lungs my diabetes is going to stay high...so thats what the doctor tells me...

True, when there is an infection, it is more stress on the body and sugars tend to creep up. I hope they get good control over those sugars, I know it's hard when your body is going through so much. Maybe when the infection gets better, so will the sugars. I too take lantus but not that much, just 10 units and coverage, but with infection I too notice that I need more insulin. You hang in there, hopefully you are out soon!

Maybe the answer is lantus and then a sliding scale of a shorter acting insulin (novolog, humalog). When I had issues with insulin resistance i did 10 of lantus and then a sliding scale. While not 600mg/dl mine were up there in the 500's with a big meal and a soda.
