Hi Cariann,

I am now on permanent disability, ssd, I guess. My husband's salary was never an issue it was based on my income when I worked... I even get a little something for each of my kids each month. Without my husband I could never live off that income but it sure helps and it is WAY better then the $0 I was earning when we all decided that my health was more important then my career. Feel free to PM me if you want more information. Good luck...

I am on SSDI & my husband working doesnt affect it at all because its based on MY work history. The only time it could is when it comes time to file income tax as SSDI "COULD" be taxable depending on the joint income for the tax return.

SSI is income based & could be affected by marriage.

Here is my current dilemma:

I have worked a ton of under the table jobs, going back to the age of 16. I'm 37 now. When I got better via supplements a little over two years ago, I decided to work a real job after I finished my education. I have been with my fiance for close to 12 years. SS put the hammer down on me and now I can't make more than 920 a month and receive benefits. So in order to assure some form of coverage, I kind of have to keep my medicare, as atleast a backup plan.

My SSDI is based off my fathers income, that I can claim under due to my disability and him dying before he claimed retirement. I want to marry my fiance very bad, and then have a child, but from what I understand, they take your spouses income into account, unless you have atleast 5 years of verifiable income? How exactly does it work? If it's based on 5 years of income, I'm screwed because I only have a little over 2 years (also is it full time only or part time too?).

Our disease doesn't suck nearly as bad as all the grey area BS red tape we have to deal with.
