If your lung function is too low, would these not be a useful CPT tool? I have been thinking of inquiring about the Acapella to incorperate into my routine. IF low function makes them less effective then it seems fruitless? Any thoughts!!!!!!!!!</end quote></div>

I would think it would actually improve lung function over time because it forces you to do deep breathing. The Acapella has a resistance setting, so you can start easy and hopefully work your way up. In that perspective, I would think it would be better than the Vest, but that's just my opinion. If your lung function is too low to actually produce anything, though, I would do as you said and incorperate the Acapella into your normal routine, and go from there.</end quote></div>

Ok you missed what I had said... my breath didn't have enough pressure to use the Acapella valve, therefore it didn't work for me. Regardless of the settings, at the time I was put on it the lightest setting was still to hard for me to produce anything from it. Same with the Flutter Valve. I also had both the blue Acapella and the Green Acapella. So yes I tried them both.

Edit:

Little clearification(sp), I am not saying that low function makes them less useful, what I was saying is for me... my function was to low for the device to work for me. I couldn't push through the valve. Hey, that is just me. Others may and do find it to work very well for them. Just cause it didn't work for me, shouldn't discourage someone else from looking into it for themselves. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"></end quote></div>

I understand Jerry. I would have just be more hesitant about getting it if it was a pricey item like the vest & might be less likely to work well with lower lung function. As many others have said they were able to at least start on the lower setting & work up even with lower lung function. Sorry to hear you didnt even get the benefit of the lower setting.

I dont use the vest anymore either. It never worked well for me and it made my hemoptysis worse. I dont like it because it shakes everywhere at once adn with hemoptysis its important to steer clear of the area that bleeds. I dont use airway clearance devices except for the Acapella once in while. They all seem to make my bleeding worse. Is it the same for anyone else?
