I thought I'd put this out there: A NON-vest (<b>not by any means ANTI-vest though</b>) thread!

I do an hour in the morning and an hour at night of physio.

I do my nebs first (Ventolin, Pulmozyme) and then I do PEP while lying in various drainage positions. In between sets of the PEP I do percussion and vibes with either my husband beating me or with a percussor. When this is all finished I take my TOBI.

If you don't use the vest, what do you do? I'd like to know!

HA HA HA I do the dreaded PEP mask too! Thought i was the only one who had one around here! It seems so old school, and mine looks like some medieval sex toy, and i hate to admit b/c i hate the thing, but it works.

I get manual CPT from someone outside of my home. There is a company in the boston area that hires specifically chest pT ppl and they come to your house to do that. ...</end quote></div>

Us too, (same company) but now we're up to 5 times a week. We had the vest, but it was easy for the boys to say "I'll do it later". Can't hide when the chest PT lady comes knockin'!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

We did just get a vest upgrade too. Now we can do PT more than once a day, especially when the boys are sick.

If your lung function is too low, would these not be a useful CPT tool? I have been thinking of inquiring about the Acapella to incorperate into my routine. IF low function makes them less effective then it seems fruitless? Any thoughts!!!!!!!!!</end quote></div>

I would think it would actually improve lung function over time because it forces you to do deep breathing. The Acapella has a resistance setting, so you can start easy and hopefully work your way up. In that perspective, I would think it would be better than the Vest, but that's just my opinion. If your lung function is too low to actually produce anything, though, I would do as you said and incorperate the Acapella into your normal routine, and go from there.

Thank you for your honesty.

I think many CFers like to think that everything that happens in a CFers life is somehow because of CPT and that it is some magic potion that has kept them healthy or if someone declined it was somehow related to them not doing CPT, when in fact, sometimes we have no control of CF. Thank you for speaking out. Your opinion is very valuable.
