I've noticed the same thing.... I never have discovered why. I just assumed that without therapy I coughed up a huge chunk, but with therapy I coughed up more just more spread out.

I always try to get up and work/exercise first thing, THEN do therapy, that seems to help get some junk out and prepare me to get MORE junk out in treatments.

For me, treatments have never made me cough (except for a hand pound) so it matters not when I do them <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I would suggest trying to take a brisk walk first thing in the morning. When I do that, I cough up a TON of junk.

I cough up a lot when I first wake up and am setting up my meds/Vest. During my Vest, I don't seem to cough up as much, but I feel so much better after my treatment, regardless of what I've coughed up. I think it might be because the Pulmozyme liquidizes what is in my lungs and it doesn't feel as gunky, as well as the albuterol opens my airways. On top of that, maybe I've already coughed up everything beforehand???

if it feels better, it probably is better. the first thing i do when i wake up is cough like crazy for about 30 minutes. i can't imagine doing ANYTHING before that really. waking up is the worst part of my day CF-wise.
