iam 20 and have found as a result of serious problems with my stomach and to a lesser degree my lungs my social life has suffered.I think what it is is all the physio gives me headaches and i only feel about 85 % .Also a lot of stomach problems as well cramps dont want to eat leaves you feeling down. Similary the constant physio which i do 3 times a day roughly about nearly 2 hours a day saps your energy and you dont feel like going out with freinds etc.At the end of the day we are only human and not robots does cf affect other peoples social life

I'm going to speak for my kids here and say YES, definately. Right now my boys are on IV meds 3 times a day. We try to schedule before and after school (6 and 2), but we are always a little late after school. We have to race home to do meds, so no after school activities. My son who is a sophomore was on the tennis team last year, but got sick the day of the first match and ended up never playing at all. They started practicing this week after school, but he can't do it.

Even when their meds are done at 3:30, they still have their CPT therapist who comes every day and have PT at the gym for endurance training to help their breathing. Add that with nebs and they pretty much have NO free time.

They feel the same as you. They try so hard to be normal kids, but their CF gets in the way.

Yes cf affects my social life alot. I'm married, but I'm still young and we have alot of single friends, and young couples around here that do alot.
Sometimes I can't stay out late, and have to head home by 9:00-its uncomfortable for me, partly b/c it makes me feel old and I feel bad for my hubby. Secondly, b/c I never want to come across as rude, or to the hostess of a party/dinner that I'm not having a good time.
It's hard when there are friends/acquaintences that don't understand. Or feel I'm babying myself or am just antisocial.
But the only thing that has helped me deal with that is getting older and maturing. I have just learned to not care as much what people think. My real friends understand, and try to work around my health if its possible, like arranging things for earlier nights or even daytime stuff.
It will always be an issue my life, but I guess its something that only time will help me deal with better.

Wow...I didnt really think I would see so many yes'.....
I personally don't think it affects my social life....
I am a junior in high school...
I have all the treatments and stuff but I squizz those att night and early morning.....
I have no IVs rite now but I do about 2 times a year for two weeks at a time.....
Everyone has the chores and things that take away time outside and time from buddies....
I have learned to adapt with the things thrown at me......
Video games with buddys during breathing treatment.....football games...
Dont let things get you down.....Live life man....

         your cf may
not have affected your social life but you cannot speak on behalf
of others. There are those who may have had a very difficult family
upbringing (violence) and there are those who suffer other problems
alongside cf such as dyslexia which compounds having a
serious condition like cf. I dont succumb to your idea that cf
should not affect you.Everyone is differnt and you cannnot
generalise from your position.
If you had a serious form of cf {not mild} and lived with a very
violent upbringing{stepfather reguarly hits you} and had
severe learning problems like dyslexia you would not be
coming out with the statement that cf should not affect you.

I am very well off with my CF and it dosent affect my social life at all really. The only time i can recall that it has "cramped my style" was when i was in a band and played at smoky bars, that got me sick once but i got smart. I purchased a half face respirator to filter out the smoke fixed the problem. The main thing i struggle with is schedule managment, taking my meds and doin my treatments at the right times so i can do everything a 17 year old can do. To those who are affected by their CF in social settings i hope it gets better for you. Peace.
