Doxy for MRSA??

I've been culturing MRSA on and off for the past couple years. I just finished a round of vancomyacin, tobra, and cefapime, and I am still culturing MRSA...I am feeling better though so I guess that's a good thing.

Anyways, my doc wants me on doxycycline to "suppress" the MRSA (100mg once a day). Do you think this is even worth it? In all the research I've done MRSA is not listed as being even a little bit sensitive to the doxy. If it's a good idea, fine, but I just don't want to be taking medication unnecessarily, especially abx.

Any insight would be great. Thanks all!

I'm on 500mg 3x/ day doxycycline to treat MRSA too. I'm on my 3rd week. My FEV1 was 56% and as of Monday was 67% which is above my baseline. I'm also on prednisone and cipro. My culture was sensitive to the 'cillin that is an IV version of doxy that is no longer in use...can't remember the name.

I was put on Doxy for my MRSA a few weeks ago. I did a sputum culture and my dr told me that it showed I was sensitive to Doxy, Tetracycline, and Bactium...as well as Vancomycine and Rifampin. Personally, I feel that Doxy, Tetracycline and Bactium hold MRSA back...suppressing it, butt as soon as I am finished, in about 2 weeks, I start all over with feeling crappy. Which leads to another culture and another round. I honestly dont feel like it does a proper job. My doc told me the reason he puts me on one of those 3 antibiotics is because he wants to save the move powerful meds (vancomycine, rifampin, zyvoxx) for when I have a really bad case of MRSA or still have some defense when I become resistant to Doxy/Tetracycline/Bactrium. And as of recently, I got extremely sick when I took Bactrium, so that has been taken out of the running right now.
