thanks, everyone!

so, does anyone know of this other procedure that they may try prior to endoscopy that i wouldn't get concious sedation for? my doc mentioned a procedure that they'd just numb my throat and have me swallow a scope and if necessary, they'd do the endoscopy. i wish they'd just go right to endoscopy so i wouldn't remember anything.

I've had an EGD (upper endoscopy) and it was a breeze. I don't remember anything at all. They gave me Fentanyl, Versed, and Propofol. It was painless and a pleasant experience.

I'm actually a GI Nurse and I assist on these procedures all day long. In our facility they don't even start the procedure until the patient is asleep. The patients wake up very happy and mostly wondering if we've even done the procedure. I'm always so happy to say "we're done"

Good Luck!!!

Thank you thank you thank you, Jess! I'm so glad you're a GI nurse!!! ha ha...

I'm actually kinda excited to get the endoscopy done now and wonder why its taken them so long to do this on me... I've complained of being burpy (but not actually burping) and bloated and having terrible reflux that isnt' helped by meds for years. So, now I just hope they do the test SOON.

My GI consult is scheduled for Oct. 6. Hopefully, they put in for the test within that week or the next. Does anyone know how far in advance they schedule such things? I'm sure it depends on availability like everything, but there are certain tests like CT scans, X rays, EKGs, etc. that you can just "walk in" for or are only a day or two backed up. I'm hoping endoscopy is a bit more like that, yet I know there will be some wait since you can't just walk in and get knocked out. LOL.

Thanks again, everyone.

Just an update...

They've scheduled my endoscopy for tomorrow morning at 6 am. Yikes! (not like i'll sleep anyway tonight! ha ha)

Anyway, the GI doc said with patients with lung disease he uses a "slower sedation" than usual, but I "shouldn't" feel it or remember it.

If anyone else has anything to add regarding this procedure, I'm all ears. I'm terrified. I'm so stressed that today my burpiness is the worst its ever been! LOL...

I guess I'm mostly afriad that I'll be awake but not able to tell them that I feel the tube going down or that I'll wake up during it. Is there a way they KNOW I'm sedated so they won't start until that? Or, is there a way they'll know to give me more if I start to wake up?

I know they used to use conscious sedation for me to get a PICC placed (I have severe panic attacks adn my veins clamp down), but last time they didn't give me enough versed or whatever cause of my lung disease (they were nervous about it) and I panicked and told them the entire time that I felt it and pleaded with them to give me more med (which they didn't do). I'm just terrified it will be like that.

Thoughts?

Thanks, everyone!
