You have the right to feel annoyed and pissed. Since they're not willing to talk I suggest locking them out next time they go out for a smoke. This would work better in the winter, I think.

I'm going to buck the trend and say that at 25, you COULD be out living on your own or with non smokers, you are lucky enough to still be able to live with your family, so i think you should be grateful.

If people want to smoke that's their business and nobody else's, why should everybody give up just because you have dodgy lungs?

They are good enough to smoke outside (they don't have to), so i think you should just keep yourself away from it as best you can and leave them to it.

When did being sick make people become so totally self absorbed and unable to care about anybody else? This attitude so many of you have about smokers really annoys me. It's their body, they can do with it what they choose. As can we.</end quote></div>

You know- Our family is alchoholics. This doesn't bother me and they can destroy their livers and brains as much as they want. I find humor in it sometimes. It is the fact that tobacco addiction is harmful to us directly that gives us the right to be angry at them. And good for you that you still have the lung function to live by yourself. Enjoy it while it lasts. It wont.

I grew up with my Dad smoking. I've gotten into his car and been choking from the lingering smoke, even after he finally only smoked outside. If you think the smoking effects just the smoker, you are completely wrong.

My own dodgy lungs or not, I feel it is selfish.</end quote></div>

Nobody said that smoking was good or indifferent to the lungs. What we did say is that they did show a modicum of respect by going outside and she always has the option to move out if it bothers her so much.

And you think a modicum of respect is enough?? I think family members ideally should be showing each other a lot more than a modicum of respect. And if they aren't, the OP has a reason to be annoyed.

Haha maybe I will lock them out! It's snowng a lot these days...mwahahaha!

Re my scoliosis, it was detected in a routine x-ray when I was 15. They said it was mild and wouldn't progress...but it did! By age 20, having crossed over to adult care, my back was really stressing me out. It hurt after a day's activity and, cosmetically, it was really bringing me down. It was only then they decided to check my bone density and, low and behold, osteopenia!

Since babyhood I have been averse to dairy, now I'm intolerant- the mere smell of milk sets off my gag reflex. So I have always wondered why my paediatric dietician didn't have me on calcium supplements. I wasn't put on anthing until just before the surgery.

So if you ask me the link between CF and scoliosis is secondary, not an inherent link. It is an off-shoot of inadequate uptake of nutrients,e.g. Vit D and calcium.

The surgery was a great success. 5 years later I wouldn't look back...if you'll excuse the pun <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

My father was a firefighter who smoked.

When I was diagnosed at 2, he quit, cold turkey, no questions asked. He had been a smoker (1 pack/day) for 16+ years.

I just wonder about the type of person it takes who wouldn't do the same...?

I'd have to agree, Lex!

When I was diagnosed at 9 months my parents (non smokers) wouldn't let my grandma smoke anywhere near me. The result? She quit, cold turkey too.

Come to think of it, no relatives smoke anymore.

Even if you don't live together, it seems unsupportive to smoke around someone with a chronic lung disease.

I'm not sure if they (smokers around me) are

A) Thoughtless

B) Don't give a $hit

C) Are aware, and they care, but they "have to" have a drag

Well, to any of the above, I just do my own thing, Don't wanna know ya.
