I'm just trying to figure out if I should even be worried about my toddler having CF...he's had some digestive and growth issues so I was here reading and getting some input from the community. My son is very light with beautiful blue eyes...my husband is a red headed man of Irish descent...on the other hand, I am adopted but have been told of Spanish desent..I have very olive skin, brown hair and dark brown eyes...we have another daughter who has my olive complexion and big beautiful black eyes and brown hair..I have 2 other children..one from another marriage (to another Irishman, might I add...I'll never learn! =) ) and one who is adopted. So the two full blooded siblings are polar opposites on the phenotypic scale and the one I'm concerned about is my fair skinned, blue eyed son of an Irishman! Interesting.

Hi Jane, I have never heard of this before either. Here is some research on the symptoms they've found. There's only a % of carriers who actually feel symptoms. It could be worth letting your doctors know that you're a carrier next time you get sick.

I'm of Irish/Italian/French descent. My CF comes from the 50% Irish side and my French "quarter"
I have brunette hair and hazel eyes that occasionally look blue, green, or brown.

melleemac: I liked the link in your post. It reminded me of when I was first sweat-tested. The doctor at Boston's Children's had a "wall of smiles" with pictures of his CF patients...he theorized that CF is a disease of the fittest--"smile-wise." What he meant was that the CF gene attempted its survival by existing in those with great attractive smiles who are more likely to begin a relationship and later produce offspring with more copies of the CF gene.
