Family history of CF

So what lurks in your family tree. Do you know of any other family members that have CF?? I'm always interested how prevalent it is in some families and other's it pops out of the blue.

I don't have any known living relatives with CF, but there were several siblings of my Grandparents on both sides that died at young ages. So I'm assuming, that yes, they more than likely had CF.

On my paternal side: My grandmother born in 1896, came from France and a family of 12 children. Of those, 3 died of consumption/ pneumonia. One as a baby, one at 7 and one at 11. My Grandfather born in 1892 was adopted in Italy and immigrated to the US in 1911 so don't know anything about his natural family.

On my Maternal side: My Grandmother had a little brother die of pneumonia in the early 1900s at the age of 4. I never knew my real Grandfather so ???? just my step Grandfather.

So between my 2 brothers and 30 some odd cousins - I was the chosen one!!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

As far as I know, I am the only one with cf. My diagnosis was a total surprise to my parents. My paternal grandmother was a symptomatic carrier (chronic panceratitis), and she had a sister who died at age 13, but I don't know of what. Apparently, she never talked about it.

Out of 8 blood related 1st cousins, and 11 2nd cousins, one sister, 1 niece and 1 nephew, I am the only one (thankfully!).

None in my family. None at all that we know of.

That's not to say we didn't have some kids die from pneumonia or whatever years ago, but nothing that I know of. Part of that is because my... great grandma (? - I think) was adopted.

But in short, nothing that anyone knows of. And I'm the only one with it currently alive.
