Feeding tubes

Have you considered taking medications to stimulate your appetite? I had a G tube placed a few years ago and it was a mistake. I also started taking a medication at the same time to stimulate my appetite and that worked wonders. I didn't even need to do feeds at night because I wanted to each so much regular food all the time. Seriously..things that never appealed to me before suddenly looked delicious. I wanted to eat EVERYthing. I had the G tube removed and I too have a second belly button, LOL. If I had weighed all my options properly, I wouldn't have had the G tube placed. But that's just me.

Having said that, if nothing else worked, of course I would have had no problem getting the G tube. For me, it just turned out that I never really needed it - there were other options that worked better for me. So it's good that you're doing the research and asking questions. Good luck!

at 5'6" and 126 pounds, do you really think your weight is 'out of control'? you have a bmi of 20, thats pretty darn good for a cfer. you probably arent gaining anymore weight because you are already at a good weight and your body knows it.

Agreed - try the appetite stimulants first.
There is Megace and Marinol (the two I know of).

The down side to the Megace: if you are diabetic, be careful - it made my b/s's go through the roof and insulin wasn't making a dent !!! (and the dr's didn't believe me that it was the cause).

The down side to the Marinol: it's still considered a controlled substance, so if you use the CF pharm, they don't carry it, so you'd have to get it through a local pharm. And Medicare doesn't pay but $10 of it, so my out-of-pocket was over $600 ! (I'm waiting for GHPP (California's state CF insurance) to pick up the rest).

Best wishes with this decision <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

Kybert my bmi has been more like 23 ish since I hit 30 so 20 seems like quite a reduction. What worried me and my doctor was the amount of weight that I lost recently and the fact I feel so tired all the time. I saw the doctor and dietician who thought NG feeds would be a good idea until my weight is back to where it usually is. I haven't started them yet though because I'm still waiting on all the equipment. I think I might ask the doctor about appetite stimulants though - I never thought of that. My BS is usually on the high side but not classed as diabetes so I'm not sure about the Megace incase it tips me over the edge! I am so indecisive my doctor is gonna go nuts LOL.
